Rams roll over Pana, 12-2

Shelbyville (22-3) plays Tuscola in the Tuscola Regional Championship on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Shelby warmed up slow then charged over Pana with 11 hits including two home runs, one a grand slam, in the Tuscola Regional on Wednesday, 12-2 in 6 innings.

The Rams trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the 1st on a solo home run by Kirk. Shelby played small ball and got that run back. Neil Yockey drew a lead-off walk and Andrew Hawkins singled. With two outs, Caleb Eloe hit an RBI single, 1-1.

In the 3rd the Rams took a 2-1 lead. Jake Keown drew another lead-off walk and Luke Hatfield singled Yockey walked with one out and Hawkins singled Keown home. They upped their lead to two runs in the 4th. With one out, Eli Miller was hit by a pitch and stole 2nd. Keown singled and Hatfield was walked. Nate Standerfer launched a sac fly that scored Miller, 3-1.

Eloe had held Pana in check except for that solo homer. He threw four Ks in four innings and had given up just two walks and a hit batter.

In the Ram 4th, McConnell walked with one out, Garrett Manship singled and Eloe walked. With the bases loaded Miller crushed the first pitch for a grand slam. Keown and Hatfield then walked and Standerfer singled Keown in and Hatfield scored on an error, 9-1.

Pana got a solo homer from Metzger in the 6th, but it was smacking an elephant with a fly swatter.

Leading 9-2, the Rams answered with a Hawkins lead-off home run. McConnell walked and Manship reached on an error. Tyler Hendryx walked. McConnell scored on a passed ball. With one out, Keown got the walk-off RBI-single for the 10-run win.

Miller and Hawkins led the Rams hit squad. Miller was 2-for-4 with a grand slam and four RBIs. Hawkins was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
