Strong Okaw Finish Over Altamont

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Okaw Valley girls basketball is enjoying their best season in a while. They enjoyed it again on Thursday storming back at home to beat Altamont, 50-42.

Okaw had balanced scoring from three players, Amy Orris, Paige Harlin, and Mollee Decesaro. That was enough for Okaw to get the upper hand. Altamont was led by one player, Madison Ohnesorge, and a side-kick, Wendling.

Okaw and Altamont were split by a single points after a solid 1st, 12-11 Okaw. Senior guard Mollee Decesaro scored three times for Okaw, while Shelby Dash, Megan Dash and Amy Orris had solo scores.

Altamont got seven points from leading scorer Madison Ohnesorge and solo buckets from Duckwitz and Mendling.

In the 2nd, Altamont lit the fuse for a 15-8 run to claim a 6-point half-time lead. Duckwitz hit a trey, while Madison Ohnesorge, Lauren Ohnesorge and Tillman had a bucket each. Wendling had two scores.

Okaw fell off. Orris dialed up a trey and Athlete of the Week Paige Harlin got on the board with a deuce and a trey. But, Okaw was down at the break, 26-20.

Okaw was invigorated in the locker room and came out strong, posting an 18-8 run. Orris hit back-to-back 3s and was fouled on a three, making 2-of-3 free throws for nine points.

Harlin scored and made 1-of-2 free throws. Decesaro scored two more times. Amanda McClain scored and Megan dash split a pair at the line.

Madison Ohnesorge scored and made 4-of-4 at the line for 6 of their 8 points in the period. Wendling added two free throws. Okaw had reclaimed the lead by four points, heading into the 4th, 38-34.

Altamont needed to answer, but they couldn't. Okaw took the final period 12-8. Ohnesorge scored twice to cap her 19 point-performance, but it wasn't enough. Wendling and Alwardt scored once, each, late.

Okaw got to the line and iced the game. They made four buckets to match Altamont's scoring in the 4th, then made 4-of-8 at the line.

McClain warmed up late with two scores and 1-of-2 at the line. Harlin scored and made 1-of-4 free throws. Abigail Weybright got on the board with a two and Orris capped her team-high 15 points making both her free throws, late.
