Devils Comeback Falls Short

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — In a see-saw battle between equals on Saturday, the Windsor Blue Devils missed a chance to get a much needed win, falling short in a late comeback bid against Villa Grove, 53-49.

Villa Grove jumped out to a 21-9 lead in the 1st period, but the Devils struck back in a lock-down defensive 2nd period, posting a 10-2 run, closing the gap to four points at the break, 23-19.

Villa Grove stretched their lead by five points as they took the 3rd period and headed into the final frame up nine, 39-30. It was Windsor's turn to turn up the heat in the 4th, with a 19-14 run, that fell just short of the win.

Keys to the loss were a multitude of Villa Grove free throw attempts and a slight edge at the arc.

Villa Grove had 30 free throw attempts and made 16. Windsor had 22 free throw attempts and made 13. Windsor had two 3-pointers, but Villa Grove had three.

Tristan Warner led Windsor with 21 points, including seven field goals and making 7-of-11 foul shots. Alex Allen followed up his team-high 17 points on Friday with 15 points on Saturday.

Allen had a five buckets, one a trey, and made 4-of-5 at the line. Mitch Haddock just missed double figures, scoring nine points with one trey.

Villa Grove's Lemmon had one point more than Warner, a game-high 22 points. Wolff scored two points less than Allen, but six of his 13 were from the arc. Fitzgerald had five points.

V.G.'s top three scored 40 points and Windsor's top three scored 47. But Villa Grove had more additional scorers than Windsor. Four more V.G. scorers combined for 13 points. Windsor had just one more scorer, Hayden Cole, with four points.
