Shelbyville 8th grade took care of business in the Sullivan Regional semifinal on Thursday doubling up Arthur, 47-24.
Shelbyville got started quickly with Cade Watson joining leading scorer Turner Pullen scoring twice from the floor, each. Payton Howell also had a solo downpayment from the arc.
Arthur’s leading scorer Vanasdoll had a deuce and a trey and put a target on his back. He only score two more times in the game. Shelby said farewell to the 1st with an 11-6 lead.
The 2nd was a draw as both teams scored eight points. Pullen scored in the 2nd, while Brett Spears and Daythan Summers came off the bench to drain 3-pointers. Vanansdoll scored two more times and Hall hit from the arc, but Shelby was still up by five, 19-14.
Shelby guzzled gun powder in the locker room and came out exploding in the 3rd period. Watson made 3-out-of-4 shots from the field and Pullen got to the line making two free throws. He then scored three more times. Mason Cameron also scored a deuce.
Arthur was held to just two field goals in 6:00. Vanansdoll was held scoreless, as the Rams had a 17-4 run and an 18-point lead heading into the final frame, 36-18.
Vanansdoll was held scoreless again and the Arthur’s compliment of players couldn’t muster any comeback. They had a pair of free throws and two solo buckets.
Shelby had eight different players take shots and four of them scored. Tylr Gottfriedt led the final 11-6 run with two baskets. Howell struck again from distance, Pullen scored once and Watson added a two for good measure.
Pullen finished with a game-high 14 points, followed by Watson with 12. Both scored six times from the floor, while Pullen added two foul shots. Pullen scored 10 of his 14 and Watson 8 of his 12 in the 2nd half. Vanansdoll led Arthur with nine points.
