Shelby State 6-Pack, Two 4ths, A 5th


Fox went to semifinal wrestlebacks and lost to rival Dalton Blankenship of Vandalia (43-7) in a nip'n tuck, 3-2 match. Fox went to the 5th place match and finished his run at state with a win, sticking Daniel Krug of Benton in the 2nd period (3:38).

Ram senior Elliott Smithson (38-5) opened state with a win, beating Joey Winkleman of Peotone (17-15) with a 2-0 decision. Smithson then lost by pin to Ross Sealby (38-2) of Byron in the 1st period (1:03).

Smithson went to 1st round wrestlebacks and rolled up a tech fall over Daniel Allen of Warsaw (21-17), beating the clock and Allen as time expired (6:00), 19-3. Smithson then went to quarterfinal wrestlebacks and lost to Daniel Zimmerman of Dakota (35-5) by fall (2:57).

Junior Lucas Duckett (43-3) won his first state match at 170 pounds, beating Joe Feemorlu (13-4) of Mooseheart by a cloe 7-5 decision. He then dropped a 1-point match to Caleb Wilson of LeRoy (28-6), 6-5.

In 1st round wrestlebacks, Duckett bested Jonathan Costain of Braidwood (Reed-Custer) with a posided decision, 9-3. However, Duckett was stopped by Jarod Noel of Busmark (39-8) in quarterfinal wrestlebacks, 4-1.

Junior Jared Finley (42-4) opened state with a decision over Markham of Stanford Olympia (28-12), 6-3. His next match went into overtime against Ivan Lopez of Plano (29-18). Finley lost 10-8. Finley went to 1st round wrestlebacks and was put on his back by Elias Edmundson of Sterling Newman (34-20) and pinned in the 1st period (1:10).
