Ram Winning Streak Snapped

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville varsity football had their 5-game winning streak snapped at Monticello on Friday, losing 42-8.

“They were just bigger and stronger than we are,” said Ram coach Stan Wienke. “It wasn’t a disaster, even though the score was lopsided. We did pretty good against them. We were competing.”

and didn’t back down. We bent, but we didn’t break. They just kept grinding it out against us and we couldn’t get anything on the ground.”

Monticello scored two touchdowns to cap drives in the 1st period. They scored again in the 2nd on a short run to go up 21-0. The Rams had a couple chances to score, but they didn’t pan out.

A punt did back up the Sages and Jordan Brown had his second safety in two weeks to get the Rams on the board. Brown led the Rams in tackles again, with eight solo tackles and three assists.

Monty scored again before half and led 28-2. The Rams held the Sages scoreless in the 3rd period and scored themselves on a 2-yard run by Brown, giving Brown all the Ram points in the game.

Monty did score two times in the 4th period, one on the only big play of the game, against Ram substitutes.

Shelbyville (5-3) is eligible for the playoffs, but to assure themselves of a playoff spot the Rams need to beat Tolono on Ram Sr. Night on Friday.
