SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville volleyball (17-13) wrapped up the conference season with a dominant home win over Warrensburg last Thursday on Senior Night, 25-11, 25-14.

“This was a pretty solid match for us,” said Ram coach Lisa Peifer. “We only had three hitting errors on the night, which was a huge improvement. The 2nd game, we did let up at the service line and had five errors there but, didn’t let them take advantage. The kids played hard and solid on Senior Night. I was really proud of them and glad everyone played so well for them.”

Three hitters led the way for the Rams. Brooke Eisenbarth and Brandy Smith had six kills and a block, each, and Madison Boone had five kills and a block. Maggie Bosgraaf dished out 15 of the seven assists.

Eisenbarth and Bosgraaf led at the line. Bosgraaf had 13 points and two aces, while Eisenbarth had 11 points and one ace. Sammy Hendrix followed with nine points and a team-high two aces. Hendrix led the defense with eight digs, followed by Eisenbarth with seven.

In the JV prelim match,  Shelbyville got in a see-saw battle that left them on top in game 3, 24-26, 26-24, 15-8.

“Once again we started off strong and then slowly fell apart,” said JV coach Meleah Brinkoetter. “We started making a lot of unforced errors, which cost us the 1st game. The 2nd game, we started off with a big lead and made a couple of defensive errors, which caused us to lose it mentally and the Cardinals caught back up. The girls didn’t give up and Hannah Koonce finished the game with an ace serve. The 3rd game, we won easily.”

“I’m glad we got to the finish the season realizing to be a successful volleyball team they must communicate with each other, give 100%, get excited and most importantly have fun, because for the hour they are on the court they are a family.”
