Rams Maul Morrisonville

SHELBYVILLE, IL. —

Stubborn winter weather not withstanding, the Shelbyville Rams went on the road to Morrisonville on Thursday and Mauled the Mohawks, 13-4.

Dual sport senior hurler Eli "Stick" Miller, also a state level sprinter, threw three hit-less innings and struck out eight to keep the Mohawks at bay as the Ram hit crew (12 hits) jacked their way to a 6-0 lead.

Hammering Luke Hatfield, also a dual sport athlete pole vaulter, blasted his second home run in as many games and doubled twice, going 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs. Nate Standerfer also went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs, and three RBIs. Garrett Manship smashed the sixth extra-base hit with a solo double, as he went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Dual sport athlete Neil Yockey, a distance runner on the track team, went 2-for-4, scored three runs and drove in a run.

Shelby got started, when dual sport long jumper, Jake Keown led off reaching on an error and stole 2nd. With one out, Hatfield reached on an error. Standerfer then doubled in Keown. Yockey hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Hatfield for the 2-0 lead.

Miller struck out three batters in the 1st. He hit one batter, walked a batter and a third batter reached on an error, none earned. The bases were jammed with two outs, when Miller won a 3-2 battle with a strikeout.

The Rams couldn't score in the 2nd, but neither could Morrisonville. A Mohawk led off reaching on an error, but Miller rang up the next two batters. Hatfield squeezed a fly out to end the inning.

The Ram exploded for four runs in the 3rd. Miller drew a walk, stole 3rd and Standerfer singled him in. Yocket singled and Andrew Hawkins hit the third consecutive single, driving Standerfer across. With two on and one out, Manship smacked an RBI double for the 6-0 margin.
