SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Stew-Stras volleyball isn't playing their best, but they still started the season 2-0, after creaming Cumberland on Thursday, 25-12, 25-14.
"I'm still waiting to see my team from this summer," said Comet coach Ronda Schlechte. "We need to set the speed of the game, instead of letting the other teams control it. The girls played well enough to win this week, but it will hurt us against stronger teams. Hitting went well along with our defense. Serve receive is one area I would like to see improve."
Stew-Stras dished out 21 assists for the 25 team kills. Becca Schlechte dished 12 assists and Baylee Quast eight.
Kendall Knop and Brittani Tabbert were the net threats with eight and seven kills, respecyively. Knop also led the team with 5 of their 10 team aces.
Sarah Locke got down for a team-high eight digs to lead the defense. Knop and Tabbert followed with six and five, respectively.
In the JV match, Jill Conder and Schlechte combined for 17 aces, nine and eight respectively. Conder also dished six assists, while Skylar Vonderheide had three of the nine kills.
Stew-Stras varsity (2-0, 1-0 NTC) and JV (2-0, 1-0 NTC) hosts Arcola on Monday.
