WRams Dominate Sr. Night

---- — The Wrestling Rams recorded a hat trick on Tuesday night whooping three different teams in the home triple dual. The overwhelmed Olney East Richland, 73-6. They chomped on Charleston, 65-12. They shut out St. Anthony, 84-0.

Shelbyville (19-4) celebrated their lone senior Elliott Smithson (24-4), then went to work in their final home duals of the season. The WRams won 39 of the 42 matches on Tuesday. They recorded 18 pins, 3 tech falls, 3 major decisions, 15 forfeits, and only one minor decision. The only Ram losses were two forfeits due to injury and one pin. It was near total domination. The Rams out-scored their three opponents, 222-18.

Zack Stirrett (106) went 3-0 with two pins and a forfeit. Lyle Jefson (113), though injured, came back to win a forfeit. Trevor Brown (120) went 2-1 with a pin and a forfeit. Garrett Brachbill (126) went 3-0 with two pins and a forfeit. Jarred Hicks (132) went 3-0 with two pins and a forfeit. Jared Finley (138) went 3-0 with a tech fall, a pin, and a forfeit.

Wyatt Fox (145) went 3-0 with a pin, a major decision, and a forfeit. Adam Hudson (152/160) went 3-0 with two pins and a tech fall. Ben Houska (152/160) went 3-0 with a pin and two forfeits. Lucas Duckett (170) went 3-0 with a pin, a major decision and a forfeit. Caleb Cloe (182/195) went 3-0 with a two pins and a forfeit.

Noah Applegate (182/195) had a pin and two forfeits. Elliott Smithson (220) went 3-0 with two pins and a forfeit. Andrew Mudgette (285) went 3-0 a major decision, a minor decision, and a forfeit.

The match against Olney was a complete dismantling. Olney won a forfeit due to a Shelby injury at 113, while Shelby won two forfeits. There were 11 matches that went to the mat but Olney was no match against Shelby. The WRams won eight of them by pin, one by tech fall and two by major decisions.

Stirrett (20-7) had a 3rd period pin (4:58). Brown won a 1st period pin (1:43). Brachbill (28-3), who finished 2nd at LeRoy, stuck his opponent at the buzzer at the end of the 1st period (2:00). Hicks (18-10), 6th at LeRoy, had a 2nd period pin (2:30). Finley (30-1), coming off a 1st place finish at LeRoy, rolled up a 22-7 tech fall ending the match early.

Fox (25-4), the LeRoy champ, stuck his foe with 30 seconds left in the match (5:30), then Houska (11-18) won by forfeit. Hudson (30-1), the LeRoy runner-up, won by 3rd period pin (4:47). Duckett (31-2), another LeRoy champion, out-pointed his foe by major decision, 15-3. Cloe (182)stuck his foe in the 2nd period (3:13). Applegate (16-13) won the 195 bout by forfeit.

Smithson (24-4), LeRoy 4th place finisher, pinned his foe in a minute flat. Mudgette (24-7), 3rd place at LeRoy, ticked off a 12-4 major decision.

Shelby and Charleston traded forfeits and wrestled 12 matches. The WRams won 11 of those 12 matches with seven pins, two tech falls, a major decision and a 2-point decision. Charleston earned one pin and that was it.

Stirrett had pin in just over a minute (1:03). Brachbill racked up a 20-5 tech fall. Hicks notched another pin, this one in the 2nd period (2:46). Finley claimed a 1st period pin (1:27). Fox worked his man for a 15-3 major decision. Hudson dominated his foe with a 24-8 tech fall before the match was called.

Houska stuck his opponent in the 1st period (1:37), Duckett stuck his opponent (3:39), and Applegate (182) notched a pin in the 2nd period (3:00). Cloe (195) won a forfeit. Smithson beat the clock in the 1st period with a pin (1:51). Mudgette found himself in a tussle, but he won, too, 5-3.

The match against St. Anthony went in record time.There were 12 forfeits all won by Shelby. There were just two matches wrestled and Shelby won both by pin. Hudson scored a 1st period pin (1:33) and Cloe scored a 1st period pin in excatly the same time (1:33).

Shelbyville (19-4) finished 8th at the St. Thomas More Super Duals over the holidays with 40 teams from all over the state. Except for their four losses there, the Rams have not lost any other duals. They won the Skull & Crossbones Tourney, won the PORTA tourney, and placed 2nd at the LeRoy Tourney. Now the WRams prepare for the Okaw Duals this Friday and Saturday at Tolono. Last year the WRams won the Okaw Duals.
