---- — Cowden-Herrick Jr. High volleyball started bumping there way through the start of the season. The Hornet 7th grade lost to Trinity, 21-25, 18-25, lost to Ramsey, 24-26, 12-25, then beat Neoga, 17-25, 25-22, 25-16. The Hornet 8th grade lost to Trinity, 25-21, 25-18, beat Ramsey, 25-22, 25-11, and lost to Neoga, 18-25, 25-11, 13-25.
They started the season against Lutheran School State Champs Stewardson Trinity. They played well for their first game, but were swept.
“The girls played a great game against an experienced team,” said C-H coach Angela Jefferies.
Grace Smith led the Hornets with 10 points and three aces, followed by Tabitha Endsley with seven points, three aces and Renee Buzzard with six points and three aces. The Hornets had 11 aces against Trinity.

The 8th grade got blitzed in game 1, then picked up play in game 2, despite the loss.
“The score didn’t reflect how great these girls played,” Coach Jefferies said. “We had a difficult time with receiving serve. Considering it was their first game of the season, they should be feeling great about their performance.”

After the season-opening sweep, Hornet 7th played much better, even though they lost in two. Kylee Wheeler led C-H with 7 points and three aces. Smith followed with five points and three aces. The team had nine aces.

Hornet 8th grade notched a win against Ramsey in a quick 2-game set. Taylor Oldham lpitched a tent at the service, recording 17 points and one ace. Hannah Barnes followed with six points, while Sara Stephens led the team with three aces.

Most recently, the Hornet 7th grade claimed their first victory against Neoga after losing game 1.
Grace Smith led the comeback win with 12 points, 7 aces, followed by Tabitha Endsley with eight points, four aces. They served 11 of the team’s 12 aces.

The Hornet 8th grade also went to three games against Neoga, but lost the decisive game.
Again, Taylor Oldham set up shop at the service line. She recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 aces. Jenna Wojcik followed with eight points, four aces, while Haley Atchley served seven points, two aces.
