A&M Assaults CHBC

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Central A& and CHBC have been doing battle in recent years, but CHBC has had the upper hand during their 3-out-of-4 years appearances at the state tournament. On Thursday, the tide turned and the advantage, a huge advantage, went to A&M, 72-27.

The voracious Lady Raiders assaulted CHBC in the 1st period with a 27-6 run. The blood-letting slowed from that pace the rest of the way, but it was still a lopsided contest for four quarters.

&M doubled up CHBC in the 2nd period and led by 30 points at the break, 43-13. The 3rd period wasn't very offensive, but A&M still extended their lead to 33 points. The Raiders made a final push in the 4th with a 20-3 run and finished with a 45-point victory.

The Raiders were once again led by their underclassmen. Kaley Hennings had 15 points, Mikah Maples scored 12 and Abigail Hilton and Ryan Dooley both had eight. Morgan Damery had near double figures with nine points. CHBC was led by Chandler Ward with just seven points and Summer Riley with six.

CHBC had their first 3-pointer in two games from Ward, while A&M had another four treys, two from Kayla Gibson. CHBC only got the line for nine free throws, making just four. A&M shot 16 foul shots, but didn't shoot much better (50%).

CHBC had just 18 rebounds (16 defensive), while turning the ball over 19 times, compared to five assists and just three steals.
