Devils dealt death blow

Windsor basketball went up against the juggernaut that is Arthur-Lovington on Friday. It was a miss-match as Arthur won, 71-44.

Arthur went for the knockout in the 1st round with a 23-9 run. They didn’t get the knockout, but they gave themselves a lead they could easily protect and they notched another win.

Windsor competed in the 2nd, but trailed by 18 at the half, 39-21. Arthur built a 23-point lead through the 3rd quarter and finished with a 15-11 run as the fat lady was singing.

Windsor’s sophomore scorer Tristan Warner was held in check, so Alex Allen stepped into the gap and scored a game-high 17 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and 3-of-4 at the line. Warner did get into double figures, scoring 10 points, including one trey. Mitchell Haddock connected from he arc twice and finished with eight points.

Windsor and Arthur were even from the arc and Windsor made two more free throws, but the preponderance of 2-point scores by Arthur was just too much. Arthur made 25 shots inside and Windsor just 11.

Arthur had three players in balanced double figure scoring. Schuring led Arthur with 14 (2 treys), Plank scored 12 (2 treys) and Schrock scored 12. Arthur’s top three scores edged the Devils top three by just three points.

However, Arthur reserves got a lot of floor time and outscored the rest of the Devils 33 to 9.
