The Daily Union Athletes of the Week were a trio of teammates who took their team to another title and a solid solo player who is playing steady.
Taylor Jordan, Kaley Hennings and Ryan Dooley led the Central A&M Lady Raiders to their 4th straight Macon County Tournament Championship on Saturday.
In the semifinal game on Friday, Kaley Hennings scored 29 points on Friday and Saturday. She led the team with 17 points in a 24-point win. Hennings scored seven times, once from the arc, and made 2-of-3 foul shots. In the title game the next night, Hennings scored 12 points. She shot 50% from the field, including a trey, and making 3-of-4 free throws.
Taylor Jordan scored 31 points in the semifinal and final games. She just missed double figures in the semi, scoring nine points, making a trey and 2-of-2 free throws. In the title match, Jordan led A&M with a game-high 22 points. She shot 40 from the floor, but that included a trey hat trick. She also got to the line, making 7-of-8 shots, 6-of-6 in the final minute. She also had three steals and two assists.
Ryan Dooley scored 25 points in the two games. She had 15 on Friday with six buckets (1 trey) and 3-of-5 at the line. In the title game, she had 10 points with another trey and 1-of-2 at the stripe. She also had a team-high five steals and three assists.
Cwenton Williams became the leading scorer for the Shelbyville Rams this season with a 20-point performance on Friday. He had a game-high 20 points, including 4-of-4 at the line, and three boards. It followed a previous 11-point performance with six boards. Williams has 139 points in 13 games (10.7 ppg), shooting 48% from the floor. He is 32% from the arc (10-of-31) and has 56 boards.
