Comets Streak Late, Lose

On Saturday, Stew-Stras had their own 2nd period run and a strong finish, but once again, couldn’t shake off their opponent in crunch time.

Down 11-7 to start the 2nd at Mt. Pulaski, the Comets put on a 20-13 run to take a 3-point half-time lead, 27-24. Mt. Pulaski reclaimed the lead with a 15-8 run in the 3rd, 39-35. Stew-Stras scored 18 late, but Mt. Pulaski 19 and notched the win.

The Comets were on a bombing run, Saturday, connecting on a sortie of ten 3-point missiles. But it still wasn’t enough. Mt. Pulaski had seven treys and a 6-point advantage at the foul line. That and their 8-point advantage inside the arc, gave the Toppers enough to offset the Comet 9-point edge from distance and get the win.

Brandon Helmuth led all scorers with 24 points, including five 3-pointers. Jason Fry had 18 points, including a trey hat trick. mark Jones and Austin Rincker had just three points each, both from the arc.
