Rams Fall, Burton Gets 1000th Point

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville girls took a hit against Monticello on Monday night, 57-44, but it was a banner night for Lindsay Burton the Lady Rams leading scorer. The 4-year starter scored the 1000th point of her career.

Burton is the first Lady Ram to score 1000 points since Ann (Nottingham) Dunaway. Burton needed six points before the game started. She finished with a game-high 17 points, giving her 1011 points for her career with one regular season game left.

Monty doubled-up the Rams in each of the first three quarters, then called off the dogs. Shelby then made their move to count some coup before the final buzzer.

Burton scored three times in the 1st period to eclipse the 1000-point mark. Grace Schuler added a bucket. Buzan scored three times and made 3-of-4 foul shots. Huisinga scored twice and made two free throws. Caldwell had a deuce to cap the Monty 16-8, lead.

Madison Boone took over in the 2nd, scoring three times. Burton added a deuce. Monty got three more buckets from Buzan and two from Caldwell, plus a pair of free throws. Huisinga sank 5-of-6 foul shots and Monty was up by 17 points at the half, 33-16.

Burton got to the line twice in the 3rd, making 3-of-4. Boone and Olivia Williamson made a bucket, each.Autumn Carson scored and Courtney Schultz made 1-of-4 foul shots.

Monty got a bucket from Buzan, but Hislope got on the board, scoring three times. Caldwell scored twice more. Huisinga and Rupkey had solo twos.That 16-10 run, put Monty up, by 23 points, 49-26.

As the fat lady was singing to start the 4th, Burton and Boone went to work. They each scored three times. Carson, Schultz, and Schuler added solo twos to cut the final Sage lead down to 13 points. Monty had three solo twos and 2-of-4 free throws down the stretch.

Shelby was only out-rebounded by three boards. Burton, Boone, and Williamson grabbed five boards, each. 

The Rams once again had more assists and as many steals as they did turnovers. They had 12 assists and 10 steals, with 10 turnovers.

Carson picked up two more blocked shots. Williamson led the defense with three steals and Carson had two. Boone led the team with four assists and Williamson three.
