---- — The Shelbyville Lady Rams celebrated their five seniors, then kept having accordion catch-ups after falling behind. The Rams didn't go away and did not allow Clinton to blow them out, losing by just 11, 65-54.
Clinton started with a 9-0 run, but the Rams pushed back to trail by just three at the end of one, 14-11.
They fell behind, 26-14, in the 2nd, but closed the gap again to seven at the half, 35-28. However, early in the 3rd the Rams made it a 3-point game, 35-32.
Clinton went up by 14, 52-38, at the end of the 3rd and had a chance to score again, but were turned away at the buzzer. Clinton built the lead up to 19 points with 3:00 to play, but the Rams finished with a 10-2 run against the league leaders.
Senior scoring leader Lindsay Burton pushed her career total to 1026 points with a game-high 15 points and 10 boards for a double-double. She scored seven times from the floor and added a free throw and three blocked shots.
Pick pocket Grace Schuler scored 10 points, with two steals for scores on inbound plays, plus a 3-pointer and 3-of-6 foul shooting. Schuler also dished a team-high seven assists and had a team-high four steals. She had just one turnover.
Senior Bri Ruff stepped up her scoring on Sr. Night with seven points, hitting jumpers. So did senior Olivia Williamson, scoring three times and grabbed six boards with two assists.
Senior Courtney Schultz had a two and used her compliment of fouls playing hustling defense. Autumn Carson scored two buckets and had seven boards and three more blocks.
Clinton had balanced scoring with three players with game-high 15 points and one with 14.
The Rams missed some lay-ups in the 1st that would have given them the lead through the first 8:00. They didn't score until the 4:14 mark, when Burton converted a 3-point play, 9-3.
Brui Ruff came right back and drained a jumper, 9-5. Two minutes later, Schuler split two defenders and drove past another for two and cutting the 9-point lead to just two, 9-7.
After Clinton scored, Schuler made it a 10-2 run with a 3-pointer, her fifth point in a row, 11-10. Shelby tied the score with :55 seconds left in the 1st, as Schuler split a pair at the line, 11-11.
A late 3 Scott gave Clinton the 14-11 lead at the end of the 1st. Clinto started the 2nd with a 8-3 run in the first 3:00. Burton had a lay-up and Ruff made a free throw, 22-14.
Scott scored and, on a free throw, Clinton got the rebound and tyhe bucket, 26-14. Boone had a steal and got it to Autumn Carson, who dished to Burton for two.
On the inbound, Schuler played possom and stole the ball under the Ram basket. She went up against two players and missed, but got her own board and scored, 26-18.
Clinton scored, Boone scored, then Toohill hit a triple for a 31-20 Maroon lead. Boone made the first of two free throws and Burton scored on the missed free throw, 31-23.
Schuler stole the ball again on an inbound under the Ram basket. She dished to Carson at the free throw line and she drained the shot, 31-25.
A minute before the half, Shelby was down eight. Boone split two free throws, then she stole the ball. Schuler scooped up a loose ball and got it back to Boone for two, 33-28. A final lay-up put Clinton up eight at half.
Shelby opened the 3rd with Ruff and Boone scoring and trimming the Clinton lead to three, 35-32. Courtney Schultz then took a charge.
Clinton was up, 41-32, when Schuler dished to Burton for two inside with 3:10 in the 3rd. Down by 11, Burton scored on an inbound play and Olivia Williamson scored to get the deficit under 10 again, 47-38.
Shelby was shut out the last 2:00 of the 3rd. But they also shut out Clinton the last minute. Carson blocked a shot with 1.1 seconds left.
Carson opened the 4th with a long two, making it 52-40. Down by 14, Courtney Schultz hit a jumper with 6:20 remaining, 54-42. Burton was doubled a minute later, but she scored anyway, 57-44.
Clinton scored six straight, before Burton hit a jumper, 63-46. Ruff scored on the next possession, from the wing with 2:20 left, 63-48. Williamson made it a 6-0 Ram run, missing her first shot under neath against two defenders, then getting her own board and powering it in, 63-50.
Clinton made two free throws with 55 seconds left, 65-50. Shelby scored the last four points on two free throws from Schuler and a inside bucket by Quincy Beyers with the clock running out.
