W/SS Doubles-Up Casey, Splits DH

SHELBYVILLE, IL. —

Windsor/Stew-Stras baseball used rallies to double-up Casey on Friday, 8-4, but a rally in game 2 on Saturday by Central A&M made W/SS settle for a split on Saturday, winning game 1, 4-0, and losing game 2, 4-3.

The Windsor/Stew-Stras coop used two 3-run rallies to count out Casey and run their record to 8-2 on the season.

Down 1-0 in the top of the 3rd, W/SS rattled the bats for three runs. Casey countered in the bottom of the inning with two runs to knot the game, 3-3. Once again, Casey took a 1-run lead in the 4th, 4-3. And, once again, W/SS answered a 1-run deficit with multiple runs, scoring two in the next half-inning.

W/SS was up 5-4 in the top of the 7th when they vaulted away from Casey with another 3-run rally. Casey had no answer in the bottom of the 7th. Hayden Cole hit 2-for-3 for W/SS and drove in four of their eight runs. Trey Leasher was 1-for-4, but drove in two more runs.

Hurler Ben Helton ran his record to 3-1 with the win. Helton shut down Casey, throwing a 1-hit, 3-inning shutout to wrap up the win. He struck out five and walked no one. Despite the 4-run margin of victory, W/SS was out-hit by Casey 8 to 7.
