2nd Quarter Dooms Shelbyille

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville out-scored St. Teresa in the 2nd half, but a big Bulldog 2nd quarter had already put the game out of reach, as St. Teresa posted a 43-27 win.

Shelbyville cleaned up their penalty problem and their passing game helped the to their biggest scoring out-put of the season. The Ram defense played better, but couldn't eliminated the big plays again and that figured in their ultimate defeat.

Shelby defense didn't give up a big play in the 1st quarter. They made St. T use a 13-play 79 yard drive to get their first score.

St. T got their1st quarter field goal on a Ram 3 and out on their first possession. The Ram punt from their own end zone turned into a run that fell short of the 1st down and St. T took over deep in Ram territory.

Shelby defense forced a 3 and out and St. T booted the 3-pointer to go up 10-0. The defense came up big again early in the 2nd quarter.

After the Ram offense's second straight 3 and out, Fox punted. On the first St T play, Caleb Cloe recovered a fumble, giving the Rams the ball on the St. T 35.

Shelby put together an 11 play drive that included a 1st down catch by Matt White and a 20-yard one-hand grab by Tristan Wade on 4th and 19 for another 1st down.

On 4th and 4 from the St. T 7, Duckett threw to Luke McConnell in the end zone, who caught a tipped pass for the score. Dylan Patch kicked the extra-point to make it a 3-point game at the 9:48 mark of the 2nd, 10-7 St T.

Then came the first big play. After the kick-off, St. T picked up a 1st down on the first play, then threw a pass to a wide open receiver for the 75 yard TD play. With the extra-point kick it was 17-7.
