BC Wins, Then Loses

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Beecher City lost big time to Newton on Thursday in the Dieterich Holiday Tourney, 61-21, but then they came back and out-played Oblong, 57-51.

B.C. started out down three points after the 1st, 12-9, then Oblong opened up a 21-13 run in the 2nd to vault into an 11-point edge at the break, 33-22.

After a locker room revival, B.C. burst out onto the floor and answered with their own 22-10 run, giving them a 1-point advantage heading into the 4th, 44-43. In crunch time, B.C. kept the upper hand, finishing with a 13-8 run to notch the 6-point win.

Oblong scored 21 of their 51 points from the arc, but just six from the free throw line. They got 24 points inside the 3-point line.

B.C. scored 38 points inside the arc, a 17-point edge. They also got to the line for ten more foul shots than Oblong, making 13-of-19. The 7-point edge at the line and the 14-point edge inside (21 points), out-did the 15-point Oblong edge from the arc.

Brady Barnes led all players with 18 points with seven field goals and 4-of-9 at the line. Brandon Gardner followed with 11 points, including a pair of treys and 2-of-2 at the line. Jackson Bales followed with eight points, all from the floor.

Oblong had three players in double figures, two with 14 points and one with 10. Those three players had 38 of their 51 points. B.C.'s top three had 37 points. But B.C.'s Austin Rexroad and his seven points were unmatched in a 6-point win.
