Free Throws Sink Shelby

Rams To Battle For Basement

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville basketball still couldn't get over the hump as they dropped their fourth straight pool play game at the Vandalia Holiday Tourney on Saturday, losing to Greenville, 57-44.

Shelby out-rebounded the Comets 31 to 24, but poor shooting from the arc (2/17) hampered the Rams.  Turnovers were also a problem again (21), but it was free throws that cost them the game.

Greenville also had a 4-point edge scoring from the floor (52%). That, plus free throws gave them the margin of victory.

The Rams and the Comets were locked in a 13-13 tie after the 1st period, then Shelbyville took a 1-point lead at the break, 27-26.

Greenville picked upo the pace in the 3rd and the Rams lost the lead, but it was still anyboidy's game at the start of the 4th with the Comets leading by just three, 43-40.

Greenville finished strong as they blue-streaked away from the Rams on a crushing 14-4 final run for the win.
