CHBC Wins In Regional, Bows

The Cowden-Herrick-Beecher City 7th graders traveled to Paris on Saturday for their regional volleyball tournament.

Teams were seeded: Oakland Lake Crest, Arthur, CHBC, Neoga, Arcola, Findlay Okaw Valley, Paris Crestwood.

CHBC beat Findlay Okay Valley 25-17, 23-25, 25-21. Oakland had a bye in the first game. Neoga beat Arcola 25-22; 14-25; 25-15. Arthur beat Paris Crestwood 25-12; 25-13.

The next round included Oakland Lake Crest defeating Neoga 25-4; 25-13 followed by Arthur defeating CHBC 25-13; 25-5. The championship was won by Arthur defeating Oakland 25-17; 25-21.

"I was proud of our seventh graders being able to pull together and play especially missing one of our starters," said CHBC coach Angela Jefferies.

CHBC's regular season record was 7 wins, 8 losses and in the NTC this year was 5 wins, 3 losses. Their total including all tournaments was 9 wins, 12 losses.

Lauren Wojcik and Kylee Wheeler led CHBC over Okaw Valley with double-digit performances, while Renee Buzzard had a near double-digit performance. Wojcik served 11 points and Wheeler served 10 points with a team-high three aces. Buzzard served nine points and sizzled two aces.

CHBC stats: Lauren Wojcik 11 points; Kylee Wheeler 10 points, 3 aces; Renee Buzzard 9 points, 2 aces; Rylee Black 2 points; Tabitha Endsley 1 point.

Arthur completely stymied CHBC in the semifinal, out-scoring the Hornets 50 to 19 in a quick 2-game set. Wojcik, Buzzard, and Kara Cedar were the only Hornets to get in the scorebook. Cedar had the only ace.
