After dropping an 8th inning game on Thursday, the Shelbyville softball girls recorded a 10-run, walk-off win on Saturday over Pana, 13-3.
"It was a much better effort mentally and defensively today," said Ram coach Josh Maxwell. "Torre Koontz (freshman) picked up her first varsity win."
Besides Koontz going the distance, Shelby had five batters with multiple hits and 8-of-9 starters hitting safely, totaling 14 hits.
Pana's Sue Smart opened the game reaching on an error, but was then caught off 2nd for an out. Koontz rang up the other two batters and the Rams came to bat in the 1st, getting all they would need for the win.
The first two batters, Courtney Williams and Kayla Brachbill hit singles and both stole 2nd, respectively. Madison Boone was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With one out, Jensen Cloe reached on a fielder's choice, but the runner on 3rd was forced out at home.
With the bases still loaded, Rachel singled in a run and Boone scored on an error. Koontz then helped herself with a 2-run double, 4-0 Rams.
Pana had two singled in the 2nd, but couldn't score. One was out on the base paths and the other on a fielder's choice. Shelby came to bat looking for more runs.
With one out, Williams reached on a wild pitch 3rd strike. Brachbill singled, again. Boone singled and drove in a run. Brandy Smith blasted a triple and drove in two runs, 7-0 Rams.
Koontz retired Pana in order in the 3rd. She threw out the first batter and rang up the second. Smith threw out the third on a ground ball to short. Shelby went down in order in the 3rd.
Pana got on the board in the 4th. Laurel Funneman singled and Cheyenne Ashcraft doubled. With one out, Delaney Harmston doubled. After a walk, a sacrifice and a pop out ended the rally, 7-2 Rams.
