Okaw Wins See-Saw Battle

Okaw Valley (2-2) bounced back from a loss to one, non-conference, OVC opponent by beating another one. Okaw lost to a juggernaut Maroa offense on Monday, but on Wednesday they won a see-saw battle against Argenta, 8-5.

Daily Union Athlete of the Week Amanda McClain hurled another winner, throwing nine strikeouts in seven innings, while walking just two. She gave up eight hits and four earned runs.

The game had three ties and four lead changes. The difference was a big rally for the T’Wolves in the bottom of the 5th. Both starters went the distance with a total of 19 Ks and 18 hits between them.

Argenta drew first blood and led after one, 1-0. Okaw took the lead in the 2nd, 2-1. Argenta tied the score in the 3rd, 2-2, then Okaw reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning, 3-2. In the top of the 5th, Argenta took over the lead with a 2-run posting, 4-3.

Okaw reclaimed the lead again with a 4-run rally in the bottom of the inning, 7-4. Both teams added a run in the 6th and the defense capped the scoring for the Okaw win, 8-5.

Ashlyn Sutton led the Okaw hit crew, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.Amy Orris was among the leaders again with another extra-base hit. She had a triple on Monday and on Wednesday, she hit 2-for-4 with a double. McClain helped herself, hitting 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.
