---- — The Daily Union Athletes of the Week performed in different ways, but were all outstanding nonetheless.

Christian Vonderheide of Stew-Stras pitched and hit outstanding for the Windsor/Stew-Stras Blue Devil baseball team. Vonderheide is undefeated as a pitcher. He started the season, beating Shelbyville, 9-2, with eight Ks in four innings.

This past weekend, Vonderheide threw against Central A&M and recorded a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts. He was one walk shy of a perfect game. Against Villa Grove/Heritage last week, Vonderheide hit 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs.

Tyler Hendryx of Shelbyville bounced back from a rough opener by giving Shelbyville a chance for a win against Dieterich last week. Hendryx suffered a extra-inning, 2-1 loss, but went the distance, throwing 7.2 innings. He gave up just one earned run, three hits, and four walks, but struck out 15. Hendryx also subbed into the 4x8 relay at the Top Times Meet. They finished 11th in the state (8:56.39).

Jason Fry of Stew-Stras was virtually untouchable at the Illinois Top Times Indoor Meet last weekend. Fry came in as the #1 seed and heaved his way to the unofficial indoor state title. Fry qualified for the meet with a #1 throw of 51-7.50. Fry heaved a foot and a half farther than that to get the win. He threw the shot 53 feet 1.5 inches, one and 3/4s of a foot further than the 2nd place competitor.

Jordan Smith of Shelbyville placed 4th at the Top Times Meet in the high jump. The sophomore cleared 6 feet, 4 inches, a personal best, tying for the best finish of the day of the 14 Shelbyville athletes that qualified for the meet.
