Comets Cobble Wooden Shoes

Stew-Stras went through the gauntlet last weekend at the Crossroads tournament. They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. On Tuesday, the Comets cobbled the Wooden Shoes, 25-12, 25-13.

“Our confidence was up tonight after a long tough weekend,” said Comet coach Ronda Schlechte. “We tried a new rotation tonight to try to mix things up. The girls were working real hard on getting the block set and we were able to get more hands on the ball. Just little things to keep us improving as we move through the season.”

Stew-Stras swung for 27 kills from six hitters in the too-quick, 2-game set. Kendall Knop and Becca Schlechte led the attack with nine and eight kills, respectively. Baylee Quast dished 15 of the 22 assists and with Brittani Tabbert led the mid-court defense with nine digs. The Comet defense tallied 38 digs from six different players. Lindsay Burton led the net defense with three of the six block assists. Stew-Stras also served up seven aces as part of a balanced attack from the line.

Stew-Stras varsity (6-5, 2-1 NTC), JV (5-1, 3-0 NTC), and fresh-soph (1-0-2) were to host St.Elmo/Brownstown on Thursday.
