---- — Shelbyville (2-4) was hungry for a homecoming win, while Clinton (1-5) was just looking for a bus home, especially after the Rams turned a couple of Maroon quarterbacks black and blue in the 40-8 blowout.

“The defense played great,” said Ram head coach Mark Ramsey. “We still had a lot of penalties (10 for 80 yards) and fumbles, but our offense is getting better.”

The Ram defense was stifling. They held Clinton to negative 30+ yardage rushing and just 70 some yards passing and most of that on one play.

Clinton scored their only touchdown, a 54-yard TD pass from their starting quarterback in the 1st period. In the 2nd quarter, that quarterback was knocked out of the game by a stiff Shelbyville rush.

The Rams had 15 tackles for loss for a total of 97 yards. Mike Ulrich had eight tackles, four for losses totaling 31 yards. Jared finley had six tackles, two for losses totaling 19 yards. Adam Hudson had nine tackles, two for losses totaling -8 yards.

Elliott Smithson had two tackles for loss for 9 yards total. Matt White had a 10 yard tackle for loss. Lucas Duckett had a sack for 6 yards. Garrett Ferguson had a one yard sack and Luke McConnell a 3 yard tackle for loss.

Except for a safety early in the 2nd quarter, Clinton didn’t score again, despite some good field position.

Shelbyville threw an interception on their first drive and Clinton scored on their next possession, beating the Ram defender on a long pass down the sideline for a 54-yard score, 6-0.

Shelbyville had given up yet another big play. But it would be the only one in this game.

Shelbyville scored on their next possession, going 62 yards in six plays. Tice Robinson sparked it with a 23 yard run up the middle. Duckett wnet 10 yards on a scramble and Tyler Hendryx ran a sweep for 23 more yards to the Clinton 5. Robinson ran it in on eht enext play through the middle, untouched, and Dylan Patch kicked the extra point, 7-6 Rams.

After a 3 and out Clinton punted. Shelby went 3 and out and had a punt that went out at their own 30. Clinton threw another long pass to the end zone and it was cauht temporarily, before Wyatt Fox knocked it loose for the incompletion.

The game went into the 2nd quarter after Ulrich and Finley had a tackle for loss. Dylan Patch then had a quarterback sack and Clinton punted from the Shelby 40.

The punt was allowed to be downed at the Shelby 1 yard line. On the first play they caught the running back in the end zone for a safety and the 8-7 lead.

Clinton got good field position again after the Shelny kick from the 20. Clinton returned it to the 20. On the second play, Cltinon threw another TD down the sideline. A flg on the play negated the TD and it was 3rd and 20 from the Shelby 30.

A delay of game penalty was followed by a fumble, recovered by Hudson at the Shelby 37. Ram holding penalties frustrated their gains and they had to punt. This one went all the way to the Clinton 16, 49 yards.

Shelby drove Clinton back to their own 10 and they had to punt. Tyler Hendryx then ran 35 yards from scrimmage for the go-ahead touchdown. Shelby threw a halback pass to McConnell in the corner of the end zone for the 2-point conversion, 15-8.

Clinton returned the ensuing kickoff to the Shelby 40. But, a pass in the middle of the Ram defense went right to Jared Finley.

Duckett threw a ball into the flat to Wyatt Fox and he took it 67 yards, inside the Clinton 5. Two plays later Hendryx ran the ball in. The extra point kick missed, but Shelby was up by two touchdowns with 4:32 left in the half, 21-8.

Clinton started on their own 45, but got backed up again by two penalties. Shelby got the ball back with time to score before half, but didn’t.

Shelby wasted no time in the 2nd half. Hendryx ran the kickoff to the Shelby 46. Duckett passed to Luke Mcconnell for 10 yards. Dylan Patch then ran 43 yards for a score. He was hit an had his feet taken out inside the 10, but he finished the run diving into the end zone. The extra-point kick missed, but Shelby was up 27-8 with only 42 seconds gone in the 2nd half.

Clinton drove the ball on their next possession, taking it to the Ram 13 in seven plays, including a Shelby face mask call. But a possible pass interception was dropped at the 5 yard line. On 4th and 10 Zach Williams picked off a pass and ran it back to the Shelby 20.

Shelby went 3 and out and Clinton took over on downs. On 3rd and 20, Ulrich sacked the back-up quarterback and he had to leave the game.

Shelby took the punt and went 46 yards in four plays, but on a 1st down play to the Clinton 18, the ball was fumbled away.

Clinton went 3 and out again and punted. Fox caught a pass in the flat and went 25 yards, but it was called back on yet another holding penalty.

Into the 4th quarter, Shelby kept driving. Robinson ran for 10 yards and got the ball to midfield. Duckett then threw over the middle to Tristan Wade. The defender tried to strip the ball, but Wade spun away and ran the ball across the goal line for a 50 yard score. The extra-point kick was no good, but Shelby was up, 33-8.

Clinton got the ball and started at their 45. But they quickly went to 4th and 25. The punt started Shelby at their own 25. They went on an 11-play drive for 75 yards and a score on a Devin Peterson 33 yard run. The extra-point kick was good and Shelby capped the score at 40-8.
