Shelbyville Moulton boys led the way as the Rams won their home opening track meet on Monday against Central A&M and Arthur. Shelby’s combined co-ed score was 191 points, edging Arthur with 186 points ,with A&M totaling 166 points.
Shelby 8th boys scored 72 points to win their meet over Arthur (49) and A&M (28). The Ram 7th boys won their meet with 52 points over A&M (47) and Arthur (36). Shelby 8th girls came in third in their nip ‘n tuck meet. A&M 8th girls won with 44 points, Arthur had 42, and the Lady Rams 37. In the 7th grade girls meet, Shelby was also third with 30 points. Arthur won with 59 points and A&M had 47.
Despite the team win, the highlight of the day for Shelbyville was Turner Pullen breaking the 8th grade boys 110 meter hurdles record. IHSA state qualifier Cody Langan set the record in 8th grade. Pullen finished second to Vannasdoll of Arthur, but set a new school record (16.67) by almost half a second.
The Ram 8th grade boys won six of 14 events, were 2nd in 10 of 14 events, with four 3rd place and four 4th place finishes. Leading in scoring were Ryan Skowronski and Brett Spears with 10 points, each. Skowronski won the 800 run (2:19) by 15 seconds and the 1600 run (5:11.5) by 7.5 seconds. Spears won the 100 meter dash (12.8) by a tenth of a second over Zindel (CAM) and the pole vault (8-6) by a foot and a half.
Payton Howell followed with eight points. Howell won the shot put by almost three feet (36-2) and was 2nd in the discus (104-7). Martz and Cameron followed with six points, each. Martz was 2nd in the 1600 run (5:19) and 2nd in the 800 (2:34). Cameron was 2nd in the 200 dash by a tenth of a second (26.6) and 2nd in the long jump (15-8.5). Pullen scored five points, counting his 2nd in the hurdles and a 3rd in the high jump (5-2).
