Rams smack ALAH, then fall

Shelby baseball denigrated ALAH on Monday with a 13-2 blowout, but couldn’t overcome a 4-run rally by Nokomis on Tuesday, losing 5-3.

Luke McConnell and the Rams squashed ALAH’s offense, while rattling the bats. McConnell allowed just one earned run on two hits in five innings, walking three and striking out six.

Shelby drew first blood in the bottom of the 1st, but ALAH drew even in the top of the 2nd. That’s when the Rams unloaded the lumber. When the smoke cleared, the ALAH starter was gone, Shelby had scored nine runs and were up 10-1.

They stymied ALAH in the 3rd then added another 3-run spurt to put the 10-run rule in play, 13-1. Arthur could only manage one run in the 5th and the early dismissal bell sounded.

Daily Union Athlete of the Week Tyler Hendryx and Spencer Shadwell both had perfect days at the plate. Hendryx was 3-for-3, scoring three runs and driving in five. Shadwell was also 3-for-3 with a run. McConnell helped his cause, going 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two.

Lucas Duckett took his first loss, lasting just four innings. He gave up just one walk and two hits, but five runs, none of which were earned.
