After a close loss and a blowout, the Shelbyville Rams got a much needed win on Thursday, slamming Clinton, 13-0.
Shelbyville slammed three home runs, including a walk-off grand slam.
Tyler Hendryx threw a 1-hitter and struck out eight over four innings. Spencer Shadwell came on in relief for an inning, not allowing a ball out of the infield and striking out one to ring the bell on the early dismissal.
Hendryx gave up a walk, KO’d two of the batters in the 1st and the Rams came up to bat. Shelby got started right away, scoring three runs in the 1st. Shadwell led off with a single and Lucas Duckett drew a walk.
Shadwell and Duckett both scored on passed balls. With one out, Luke McConnell walked. With two outs, Brett Peifer hit an RBI single and Meyer singled. Shelby led 3-0 after one.
Hendryx gave up another walk, but answered with a K. A pop out to Garrett Brachbill and a ground out to McConnell stopped Clinton in the 2nd.
Shelby came back to the plate for another helping. Bart Kennell turned on a pitch and launched a lead-off home run. Two outs later, Brachbill walked and McConnell reached on a dropped 3rd strike. Hendryx then helped himself, launching his own home run, a 3-run shot, 7-0 Rams.
Hendryx gave up two walks in the 3rd, but rang up the other three batters, to sustain the 7-run lead. Dylan Patch reached on a fielder’s choice in the Ram 3rd, but was stranded.
Hendryx opened the Clinton 4th with a strikeout, then gave up a single. He rang up the next batter, but walked a couple batters to load the bases. A fielder’s choice ended the Maroons’ chance to score.
Shelby scored again in the 4th, just not as much as they would have liked. With one out, Brachbill singled and McConnell reached on an error. Hendryx and Peifer walked forcing in a run, then Sheldon Meyer hit an RBI-single. With the bases loaded, Shelby had two stright outs, but led 9-0.
