Shelby Moulton Sweeps Little Trojan

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville Moulton not only swept the Little Trojan track meet last Saturday, they dominated with a school record in points scored.

Shelby 7th grade girls won their meet, scoring 104 points and out-distancing Teutopolis (92) and Charleston (90) and four other teams. Shelby 7th grade boys won their meet, scoring the most team points on the day, 132 points. Mattoon was the next closest in the 7th grade boys meet, 50 points back (82), followed by five teams.

Shelby 8th grade girls won their meet, scoring 96 points. They held off a challenge from Charleston with 91 points and left the other five teams in the dust. Shelby 8th grade boys won their meet, scoring 127 points. Charleston was a distant 2nd, 50 points back (77).  

For the Shelby 8th boys, Keaton Plummer won four events scoring the maximum 40 points for the team. Tyler Pasley lead both the 1600 and 800 early with Jordan Sieger out-sprinting two people in the final straightaway in both races to finish 2nd.

For the Shelby 8th girls, Maddie Holland ran down the T-Town anchor of the 4x200 in the home straightway, then caught two people in the final straights during the 400 and nearly came back to beat Charleston anchoring the 4x400. Defending high jump state champ Sydney Miller cleared 5' for the first time this season and remains undefeated.

For the Shelby 7th boys, Kelby Firnhaber scored 38 points, just missing a perfect day. Ryan Skowronski finished with two runner-ups, despite only being medically cleared for a week and his first races of the season.

For the Shelby 7th girls, Chloe Spain scored 30 points, leading almost every step of the 1600 and 800. Shayla Darnell wasn't feeling well and had to sit out the 4x400, but Savannah Marty stepped in and the girls stepped up to still win.

We also have added 6th grade track for the first time this year. At this meet, Elizabeth Bowyer finished 5th competing in the 8th grade 1600. Cade Helton finished 5th in the 7th grade hurdles and Cassidy Tucker anchored our 6th place 7th grade girls 4x100.

Tylr Gottfriedt set the school record in the 7th grade boys high jump at the Rochester Invitational on April 6, jumping 5'5" to break the record by an inch.

"I couldn't be prouder of these kids, hard workers and competitors all around," said Ram coach Chris Mosley.
