A&M 3rd, SOV 4th At Shelby Open

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — The State Track Repeat Champions, Central A&M, posted a 3rd place finish at the Shelby Girls Open on Friday, while Sullivan-Okaw Valley placed 4th in the early season positioning of contending teams.

Despite losing some key athletes to graduation, A&M contended and still placed 3rd with 66 points. SOB finished with 52 points. Monticello took 1st (89.5 points) and St. Teresa was runner-up (79 points). Host Shelbyville finished 11th (19.5 points).

Some of the contenders kept their powder dry, not showing their hands too early in the season, but it was a showcase of those who may run on the blue track at EIU for the state meet next month.

Anna Sophia Keller, multiple state champ in cross country and track, continued her fab freshman season by setting a meet record for the 800 (2:17.87). Keller also won the mile just over 5:00 (5:04.69), 26 seconds ahead of the field.

Shelbyville's state medlaist in the 800 last year, sophomore Morgan Powers, ran with Keller beyond the 1st lap and finished  in 2nd (2:22.35), a time better than her seed time.

SOV's multiple state medalist, Amanda McClain, won three events. McClain won the 200 dash (25.89), the 400 as the only one to break a minute (58.64), and the long jump (17-5).

CAM's Ryan Dooley won the 300 low hurdles (47.08) and was 3rd in the 100 high hurdles (16.36). Her sophomore teammate Mikah Maples captured 2nd in the shot put (37.7.5) and the discus (113-03), and event she placed 3rd at state as a freshman (120-03).

Former IESA state high jump champ, freshman Sydney Miller took 2nd in the high jump at the open, clearing 5-0.

SOV's triple jump state qualifier from last year, Mollie Bowman, placed 2nd at the Open (32-10).

Junior Jorji Sparrgrove, A&M's lead sprinter, placed in the 100, the 200, and the 400. She was 3rd in the quarter (1:02.05), 5th in the 200 (26.95), and 7th in the 100 (13.0).
