Okaw Blasted Twice

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Okaw Valley played two non-conference games on Friday and Satrurday and were blasted in both of them. They lost to Paris on Friday, 17-2, and to Warrensburg on Saturday, 14-2.

Okaw didn't throw their aces either day and their opponents took advantage. By contrast, Okaw's scoring was limited by the opposing pitchers and defense.

Okaw Valley's defense, on the other hand, was suspect. They booted the ball 14 times in the two games.

Peyton Hagerman went 3-for-3 with a double against Paris, while four other Timberwolves scattered their solo hits.

Colton Sroka led off reaching on an error in the 1st, but was doubled up. Hagerman singled, but was stranded.

Paris came to the plate and took advantage of a walk and consecutive errors. With two outs, Paris hit four singles and back-to-back triples. They led 9-0 after one.

Joe Jeffers singled to lead off the 2nd, but was forced out in a 1, 2, 3, 4 inning. Paris came back for more.

Paris led off with a double, folloowed by two walks, and a grand slam by Mason. With one out, a single and a double got Paris going again. An error made it 15-0.

In the 3rd, after two outs, Ian Tiarks singled and Hagerman singled, but they were left on.

Paris started their 3rd with a walk and a double. With one out, a singled in two, 17-0. Okaw Valley hit the ball, but went down in order in the 4th.

Paris started the bottom of the 4th with a single, but Hagerman and Devon Still turned a double play. A walk and a single put two more on, but Jeffers, who came on in relief, KO'd the next man.

In the Okaw 5th down 17-0, Justin Johnson singled with one out. Sroka smacked a double. hagerman doubled and sent both runners home for the final score, 17-2.

Saturday, things went from bad to worse for Okaw fielding. Offensively they had five hits in six innings, but received six walks and still could only produce two runs.

Okaw pitchers gave up sxi walk, as well, plus 13 hits to go with their nine errors.

Colton Sroka went 2-for-2 for Okaw, but there were no Okaw extra base hits to gin up more scoring.

An eror and a walk led to W-L's 1-0 lead , while a double play against Okaw kept them from scoring. In the 2nd, a lead-off W-L single, was followed by two errors with one out., making it 3-0.

Okaw got on the board with a solo run in the 2nd. Jeffers walked and Still singled, scoring Jeffers, 3-1. W-L reached on an error in the 3rd, followed by a hit batter and a walk which loaded the bases with one out. Okaw got out of the jam. with a ground out and Dylan Park throwing a strikeout.

Warrensburg turned a double play in the Okaw 3rd, despite two T'Wolves walking. Warrensburg then had a 5-run 4th with two outs.

With a man on and two outs, another single was followed by a 2-run homer. A catcher's inerference with two outs put a man on and three singles followed making it, 8-1.

Jeffers and TJ Miller started the Okaw 4th with consecutive singles. Jeffers scored, but another double play stymied the opportunity, 8-2 W-L.

A walk, a single, and an error, made it 9-2 in the W-L 5th. With no outs a single and a double made it 11-2.

Okaw got a single from Sroka and a walk to Tiarks, but couldn't score in the 5th. The 10-run rule wasn't in effect and the game went on.

In the W-L 6th, however, the first Cardinal batter was hit by a pitch. With one out, a single and a double were hit. Another single capped the score at 14-2.

Okaw went down in order in the 6th and the early dismissal was in the books.
