Bombers Blow By Shelbyville

The first 30 minutes of Friday night’s game was like Sherman’s March to the Sea, as Argenta blew up the Shelbyville Rams defense for 41 points.

The Rams would score twice in the running clock 4th quarter against the fumbling, bumbling AO understudies, but would still start the 2013 season 0-3, losing 41-14.

The story in last week’s loss was allowing big plays. Rather than putting a finger in that dike against Argenta, the dam burst. Shelby started the game with a 3 and out. Argenta started with a 3-play TD drive. Cameron Hupp ran for 45 yards on the 1st play. After an incomplete pass, Hupp walked into the end zone untouched, 7-0 after just over two minutes of play.

Shelby got the ball and drove to midfield with one first down, but Fox had to punt again. He put the ball down at the Argenta 1 yard line. A quarterback senak gave the Bombers some operating room and, on the second play, Hupp ran 95 yards for another big play score, 14-0 halfway through the 1st quarter.

Shelby got the ball back again, crossed into Argenta territory, but them coughed up the ball. AO had a more modest 9 play TD drive, but it was called back for a holding call. The penalty and an AO fumble turned the ball over to Shelby on downs at their own 11. After one 1st down, the Rams had to punt.

Fox put the ball 46 yards away at the AO 28 yard line. On the first play, AO’s Ferrill went 72 yards for another big play TD, 21-0 just over 3:00 in the 2nd quarter.

On the next Ram possession the Rams had their most exciting play of the game. Wyatt Fox threw a pass to Devin Peterson for 37 yards to get inside the red zone. Shelby got to the 14 yard line with a pass to Tyler Hendryx, but the drive stalled and AO took over on downs.
