“This was an interesting day for us,” said Lady Ram coach Lisa Peifer. “I’d like to think we learned a lot about each other, so we can improve throughout the year. At times, we played so well and, then at times, we struggled to keep our heads up. Overall, it was a good day with good performances by all the girls. If we can continue to improve and play consistently, we”ll be a tough team.”

All-tourney performances were turned in by Madison Boone and Brandy Smith. Boone had a team-high 35 kills and a team-high 15 blocks for 50 net points. Smith swung for 31 kills and had four blocks. Smith led the defense with 30 digs and served a team leading six aces. Claudia Watson was also effective in net defense rising for 10 blocks.

Lindsey Eigsti dished out 63 of the 88 assists towards the 108 Ram kills. The registered 33 blocks to total 141 net points. Shelby also recorded 105 digs. They served 16 aces. Six of the seven servers for Shelby had 30-some or 40 some points in a balanced effort. Rachel Fox led the team at the line with 48 points

“I’m hoping that the 2nd game of the championship match will boost the confidence of these kids. We played hard against Edwards County, who pretty much dominated every team here. I think they started to believe in that 2nd game, which is what we need to do...believe in themselves. They could go a long way.”

Shelbyville (4-4) hosts Tuscola on Thursday.
