Fresh-Soph Split With Pana

The Lady Ram freshmen and sophomore volleyball teams played Pana on Thursday and settled for a split. The freshmen won, 25-19, 25-21, but the sophomores lost 21-25, 23-25.

The freshmen girls are learning on the fly, but they still managed to notch a win.

“The girls did well,” said fresh-soph coach Ann Dunaway. “We are still trying to be more consistent on our hitting and with our sets. We stareted playing better defense towards the end, but the girls need to learn to take charge and just go. There is still a lot of confusion with who is taking the ball. Sydney Miller did a good job both front row and back row. Along with Torre Koontz, Kary Langan had a good serving game.”

Shelby stats: Jacque Johnston 3 points, 1 kill, 7 assists; Kary Langan 11 points, 2 aces, 1 block; Shelby Hendrix 9 points, 1 ace, 12 kills, 2 digs; Jerrica Hood 2 kills; Torre Koontz 4 points, 4 kills, 1 block; Dakota Forsyth 4 points, 3 digs; Caylee Wheeler 6 points, 6 assists; Sydney Miller 12 points, 1 ace, 5 kills, 6 digs.

The sophomores competed, but couldn’t get the win.

“The girls played hard, but were playing defense more than we should have been,” Coach Dunaway said. “Communication is a key factor. When things are going our way the communication is there. Once the tables are turned communication is an issue.”
