SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
It was a Shelby Area showdown at Findlay on Tuesday with Shelbyville Moulton getting the sweep over Okaw Valley. Shelby 7th won, 25-15, 25-15, while Shelby 8th won, 25-10, 25-18.
Shelby 7th was out of sync to start the match, but bench players righted the ship and the Rams went on to take control for the 2-game win.
“We started out very rough,” said Ram 7th coach Brittany Pierce. “Our communication was almost non-existent and we failed to anticipate. We also missed several serves in a row, giving Okaw Valley lost of opportunities. Several girls were able to step in off the bench and did an excellent job of serving, which finally turned the game around for us. This win was a complete team effort and I am very proud of all of the girls.”
Savannah Marty led the Rams with 14 points and three aces with one of six kills. Kendyll Dunaway followed with 9 points and a team-high five aces. Emma White had seven points and two aces. Mallorie Mason had five points and three aces. The Rams, after missing several serves early finished with 15 aces in the 2-game set.
Jordan Bruder was the chief net threat again with two of the six kills. Shayla Darnell, Emmalee Storm and Jenna Helton added kills.

In the prime-time affair, Shelby 8th also swept a 2-game set, despite Okaw Valley scrapping and diminishing the Ram sense of success.
“I’m not sure we took this match as seriously as we should have,” said Ram 8th coach Lisa Peifer. “Okaw played very scrappy and kept balls alive that we then did something to cause an unforced error. Everyone played and contributed, so that was nice. It just wasn’t our best effort as a team. I’m happy for the win.”
Jacque Johnston led the Rams, again, both at the line and at the net. Johnston served 11 points with two aces and swung for a team-high five kills. Cailin Wilson and Maddie Holland also led the attack. Wilson served eight points with two aces and had four kills. Holland had seven points and two aces with four more kills. Sydney Miller had the other two kills to total 11 team kills.
Holland and Torre Koontz led the Ram defense, both with a team-high two digs and one block each. Sami Hatfield dished out a team-high three assists, followed by Johnston with two.
