Jones Scores 2000th Point In Win

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — CHBC (19-5) found themselves behind by a bucket at the half against Sandoval on Tuesday for Cowden Senior Night. The Hornets kicked it in gear in the 2nd half and went on a 41-27 run. Not only did the Hornets give the hook to Sandy, 66-54, but all-stater Micah Jones scored her 2000th career point for CHBC.

On Tuesday, Jones put up 32 points and grabbed 16 boards as she scaled 2000 points, a height few boy or girls in high school ever reach. Jones scored 14 times from the floor and added 4-of-5 at the line.

CHBC had a modest 15-10 lead after the 1st period, but then Sandoval got jiggy with it in the 2nd and out-played the Hornets on a 17-10 run to take a 2-pint lead at the break, 27-25.

That woke up the Hornets who responded in kind with their own 18-10 run in the 3rd to go up by six with bullets still in their chamber.

Down the stretch, Sandoval tried to counter with a 17-point 4th. It was to no avail, as the Hornets put up 23 points and extended their margin of victory to 12 points.

Following Jones in scoring was Ava Paruleski, who scored 13 points, posting antjer trey hat trick and going 2-of-2 at the line. Kirby Herrmann stepped up inside to score eight points, making a pair of twos and getting to the line to make 6-of-8 free throws.

Usual third scorer for CHBC Autumn Riley and recent double-digit scorer Jensyn Morrison both dimished with five points. Riley went 3-of-4 at the stripe.

Sandoval also had a scoring star, Kristin Perkins with 25 points, scoring 11 times from the floor and making 3-of-4 free throws. Bethany Kunick was also in double figure, scoring 12 points, including two treys.

CHBC shot well from the line, making 14-0f-18 free the rows, while Sandoval shot 6-of-8. The Hornets also out-shot Sandoval from the arc, 4 to 2. Paruleski had three and Chandler Ward had added the other. The 8-point edge at the line and the 6-point edge at the arc accounted a 14-point advantage in the 12-point win. Sandy had one more deuce than CHBC.

CHBC goes for their 20th win of the season on Friday as they host Christ Our Rock on  in a make-up game.
