Lady Rams in win column

---- — The Lady Rams are getting on track a few games into the season and notched their first win with a solid 2nd half on the road at Argenta on Monday, winning 62-58.

The difference in the ball game was Shelby’s post players and free throws. Argenta had 24 field goals and Shelby 23. Argenta had a couple more 3-pointers and a 4-point edge from the floor, 52-48. However, the Rams shot twice as many free throws. Their advantage from the line gave Shelby the 4-point win.

Shelby got 38 points from Madison Boone and Lindsay Burton with 22 and 17 points ( 38 points), respectively. AO had balanced scoring from three players, Katlyn Gibson 14, Katelynn Mullins with 13 and Brooke Ulrey with 12 for 39 points. The Rams also got more production from guards Courtney Schultz and Grace Schuler, seven and six, respectively.They got five from Olivia Williamson and the four points they found from Morgan Powers was the margin of victory.

Shelby also garnered 48 rebounds and only had four turnovers recorded, while AO had 14 turnovers. Shelby registered 12 steals.

The Lady Rams played AO almost even in 1st, down 10-8. Boone scored three times and Schuler once. AO had five buckets and a free throw, five of Gibson’s 14 in the 1st.

Shelby put the pedal to the metal in the 2nd as play kicked up. Shelby took the period, 19 to 17. Shelby had seven players score in the 2nd. Schuler and Powers hit from the arc, while Schultz, Bri Ruff, Burton, Boone, and Williamson all had solo twos. Powers split a pair at the line and Burton made 2-of-3 foul shots.

AO had one three, six twos and 1-of-3 at the line, but Shelby had knotted the score at the half, 27-27.

The Rams put on a 17-9 run in the 3rd and it would give them the cushion they would need for AO’s 4th quarter home court push.

Boone scored eight of her 21 points in the 3rd and Burton scored six of her 17. Schultz added a two and Williamson split a pair at the line. AO only got three deuces and a trey and fell behind by eight, 44-36.

In the 4th period, AO and Shelby scored 40 points in 8:00, with AO getting the advantage, 22-18, but falling four points short on the scoreboard at the final bell.

Burton scored seven of her 17 points and the Rams went to the line, making 8-of-12 for the win. Schuler made 2-of-3, Schultz 1-for-3 and a deuce, Burton had two twos and made all three of her late free throws. Boone converted a 3-point play at the line, and Williamson was 1-of-2 at the stripe, plus a two.

AO scored six twos, two 3-pointers, but shot just six free throws, half as many as the Rams in crunch time, making 4-of-6.
