Danville Dumps Shelby Legion

SHELBYVILLE, IL. —

Shelby Legion fell to Rantoul in their first game of the Firecracker Tourney on Wednesday night, 9-1. On Thursday morning, Shelby never got their wake-up call, losing 10-0.

Danville started slow, failing to score in the 1st and 2nd. But they flipped a switch in the 3rd and scored in the next four innings for the 10-run early dismissal in six frames.

Danville took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd. A 3-run inning made it 5-0 in the 4th. It was 6-0 in the bottom of the 6th, when Danville got a 4-run rally and the walk-off win.

Luke McConnell took the loss, going five innings and giving up six runs on eight hits. The damage was done when Zach Monroe came on in relief in the 6th, but he gave up four runs on three hits and two walks, to call a halt to the contest with two outs still left in the inning.

Meanwhile, Kyle Brazas threw a 3-hitter for six innings. Tyler Romack (1-for-2) got one of the Shelby hits. Trevor Moore (1-for-2) had another single, while Nic Hutchinson (1-for-1) smacked a double. Monroe and Romack also drew solo walks.

Shelby managed just five base runners, while Danville had 16. Shelby booted the ball twice.
