Charleston invades Lakers

Shelbyville Daily Union

---- — Charleston invaded Shelbyville’s Family Aquatic Center and swarmed the less numerous Shelbyville Laker swim team. However, Shelbyville counted coup and celebrated some individual victories.

“Saturday’s meet was fun, “ said Laker coach Nicole Hendry. “Charleston brought 77 swimmers to compete with our 19. Despite the difference in size, our kids had a lot of fun and some fast times too.”

Meredith Chambers improved her 25 free by 16.56, Jasmine Oakley improved her backstroke by 17.29, Abigail Kaiser improved her 25 back by 7.02, Kailynn Mayhall improved her 25 free by 3.78, and Eddie Clearwater improved his 50 Breaststroke by 1.76, just to name a few.

“Our girls 12 and under Medley relay: Madison Kerr, Sadie Tucker, Marley Tucker, and Breanna Vice, took 1st with a time of 3:17.40” Hendry said. “Breanna Vice also took 1st in her 100 IM, 50 free, and 50 breaststroke. She is a beast in the water this year. Her sister Madison Kerr took 1st in the 50 free in her age group. Braxton Vice, their cousin, scored a 1st in his 50 breast and 2nd’s in his IM and Butterfly.”

“Kailynn Mayhall is a force to be reckoned with.” Coach Hendry said. “This is her first season with the Lakers and I’m wondering where she has been the last several years. At age 8 she placed first in all three events; 25 free, 25 back, and 25 breast.”

“We had two more first-timers in the water, Saturday. Ashlyn Behl age 6 and Alexis Jokisch age 5 swam their first swim meet and we couldn’t be more proud, Coach Hendry said. “Thank you to all of the swim families that helped the meet run as smooth as possible. Thank you to Jessica Knearem for running our first fundraiser of the year and selling pulled pork during the meet, thank you Charleston for the competition, and a special thank you to the Shelbyville Community for supporting your local swim team.”
