B&R Marine Knocks Off Monical's

SHELBYVILLE, IL. —

Monical's was tied for the lead in the standings of Shelbyville Men's Softball, but B&R Marine swept over the pizza parlor on Thursday night, 9-8, and 15-4.

The playoffs have now began. At the start of the week, Joe's Pizza and Monical's Pizza were tied atop the league, both at 7-1, with B&R Marine a half-game back, 6-2. Joe's Pizza won two games and went to 9-1. Then came the showdown with Monical's Pizza and B&R Marine on Thursday.

The opnere was a "good game." It was close throughout. It had six lead changes. Neither team led by more than two runs. It went into extra innings.

B&R struck first with a solo run in the 1st. Monical's struck back with two in the 2nd for the first lead change, 2-1. B&R tied the game in the bottom of the 2nd, 2-2. B&R took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 3rd, the second lead change. Neither team scored in the 4th.

Monical's got two runs in the 5th for the third lead change, 4-3. B&R got those runs back in the bottom of the inning for the fourth lead change, 5-4. Monical's fought back with a 3-run 6th for the fifth lead change, 7-5. 

It was the only time in the game when either team led by more than one run. B&R couldn't respond and Monical's couldn't extend over the next inning.

In the bottom of the 7th, facing a 2-run loss, B&R got the two runs to tie the score, 7-7. Monical's regained the lead in the top of the 8th and kept the pressure on B&R, leading 8-7. B&R came up in the bottom of the 8th staring at defeat again. They scored two runs for the final lead change and the walk-off win, 9-8
