SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Okaw Valley baseball had a great season, going 19-7. However, their run slammed into a wall against St. Teresa on Saturday at the regional final, losing 10-4.
St. T got on the board and never trailed. Devon Still started for Okaw, but it wasn't his best outing. He struck out seven in just four innings, but also walked seven.
He KO'd the first batter he faced, but then walked two. Still KO'd the next batter, but then walked two more, falling behind 1-0. In the 2nd, Still gave up just one hit.
In the Okaw 3rd, the Timberwolves knotted the score. Tanner Coleman led off with a single and Connor Cloyd reached on one of the four St. T errors. After a couple of strikeouts, Peyton Hagerman smacked an RBI single, 1-1.
St. T started to tee off in the 3rd. Peters hit the first of back-to-back-to-back triples. A sacrifice with one out, put St. T on top, 2-1.
With two outs and no one on, Still walked two straight batters. Handley then doubled to break open the game, 4-1. Laukaitis then singled in another run, 5-1.
Ian Tiarks was hit by a pitch and TJ Miller walked in the Okaw 4th. Tiarks was out stealing. Coleman singled again, but he and Miller were left on.
St. extended the lead in the 4th. Still KO'd the first batter, but a single and another Peters triple, made it 7-1. A walk was followed by another Still strikeout, but A single made it 8-1.
Okaw needed to get something going and they did in the 5th. Colton Sroka led off with a walk and Joe Jeffers reached on catcher interference and Hagerman walked to load the bases.
Still reached on an error, scoring Sroka with no outs, 8-2. A double play compromised the Okaw rally, but allowed Jeffers to score, 8-3.
