Okaw Blasphemes ALAH

SHELBY COUNTY — Arthur-Lovington Atwood Hammond (ALAH) is suppose to win, but Okaw Valley refused to genuflect on Thursday. They took a lead in the 2nd  with a 14-3 run and held on for the win, 37-31.

ALAH came into the contest 11-3, but 1-1 in the LOVC. Okaw Valley's successful season had them at 8-4 and 1-1 in the conference coming in.

Throw the records out this one was won on the Bethany hardwood.

The two teams were at a draw after the first period, 10-10. Abigail Weybright scored twice, Amanda McClain scored twice and Paige Harlin scored once. ALAH had four buckets, one a trey and 1-of-2 at the line.

Then came the Okaw run. Okaw held ALAH to zero baskets in the 2nd, limiting them to seven free throws, of which they made just three.

Meanwhile, Okaw scored five tiems from the floor and made both their foul shots. Harlin hit from distance and then got to the line, making two free throws.

Amy Orris sank a shot from the mens' tees and Shelby Dash stepped up with two buckets. McClain scored again and Okaw was up 11 at the half, 24-13.

In the 3rd, dfeense reigned, but Okaw held on to the lead. McCalin and Orris had solo twos and Weybright sank two free throws. ALAH was held without a field goal for the 2nd period in a row, but got to the line, making 5-of-10 shots.

Up by a dozen heading into crunch time, Okaw had to hold off the mighty hand of ALAH. ALAH brought it, just not enough to overcome the hole they were in.

ALAH had two treys and a deuce down the stretch and got to the line, making 5-of-6 shots. That would have given thewm a 1-point win, but they couldn't stop Okaw from scoring.

Savannah Birch converted a 3-point play at the line and Megan Dash got on the board with a two. Okaw got to the line for ten other shots, but made just two. Despite that, they held on to the 6-point win.

Okaw had balanced scoring with no one in double figures. McClain led the team with nine points, eight points form the floor. Harlin had seven point, with a trey and 2-of-4 at the line. Weybright scored seven, getting the T'Wolves going early and getting to the line, making 3-of-6.

ALAH had one player in double figures, Coller, with 14 points. She had two treys and made 8-of-11 at the line.

ALAH was 14-of-25 at the line, missing 11 free throws in a 6-point loss. Okaw was just 7-of-17, but made enough to survive.
