Shelbyville Bows in Regional

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville closed the gap some from their last match-up with Pana, but still fell to the Panthers on Monday in the opening round of the Shelbyville 2A Regional, 71-58.

In the first match-up Pana rained down 3s to beat the Rams. This time Shelbyville held pana to just five 3s, while Shelby made four of their own. That kept the game in play. However, Pana had four players in double figures, while Shelby had just two, one the game-high scorer, Cwenton Williams

Williams finished his senior season strong with a career-ending performance, 27 points and 9 rebounds. He shot 65% (11-of-17) from the field, making 4-of-6 treys and 7-of-11 from in close.

Luke McConnell followed with 14 points, shooting 50% from the field (7-of-14) and grabbing seven boards. Tice Robinson and Brett Peifer both dished three assists, while Devin Peterson scored seven points and led the team with two steals.

What killed the Rams was there lack of getting to the foul line. Pana and Shelby each made 21 twos. Pana had five 3s and Shelby four. But Pana shot 20 foul shots, making 14. Shelby shot just 13 free throws and only made two. Free throws iced the game for Pana.
