SHELBYVILLE, IL. —

Cowden-Herrick volleyball (4-2) tipped the scales against Louisville last Monday, 27-25, 25-21, before being the latest St. Anthony victim on Tuesday, 9-25, 12-25. They got back winning on Thursday, surviving a game Beecher City squad, 19-25, 25-21, 25-13.

C-H went to 3-1 on Monday with the hotly contested battle vs. North Clay, 27-25, 25-21

Jensyn Morrison continued to lead the attack and provide net defense with eight kills and four blocks (12 net points).

The rest of the Hornets swirled around Morrison in a balanced effort.

Hannah Wehrle was the mid-cort defense leader with six digs and split the 10 assists evenly with Ariel Heiserman.

Haven Lorton was on fire at the line delivering five aces. As a team the Hornets recorded 19 digs.

The test against St. Anthony on Tuesday was too much for the Hornets, falling to the NTC juggernaut by a combined score of 23 to 50 in the 2-game set.

The Hornets were stunned by St. Anthony had pedestrian stats to show for it. Morrison was held to just two kills and two blocks, while Ariel Heiserman dished two assists and three digs.

Cowden-Herrick def. St. Anthony, 26-24, 20-25, 25-22

Cowden-Herrick was still feeling the effects in game 1 on Thursday against Beecher City, losing 19-25. But Cowden came back, fighting for a game 2 win, 25-21, then pulling away in game 3, 25-13.

Beecher City was firing on all cylinders and it took an effort for Cowden-Herrick  to prevail.

BC's Kirby Herrmann recorded a double-double, swinging for 11 kills and recording 10 digs. Kirsten Buzzard led the defense with 13 digs and six kills. Caitlin Sloan was also a double-digit performer with 10 digs to go with five kills. Setter Kacie Hilt recorded a season-high 18 assists with eight digs.

C-H's Jensyn Morrison tallied 12 more net points with six kills and a season-high six blocks. Ashley Davis was the other net threat with five kills.

Wehrle and Lorton combined for 12 of the 14 Hornet aces, Wehrle with seven and Lorton with five. Wehrle and Heiserman split the 12 assists evenly, again.

Cowden-Herrick needed just 18 kills and 13 digs to notch the 3-game win.
