---- — The Daily Union Athletes of the Week stepped it up.
The three members of the Shelbyville cross country team pushed themselves to advance to sectional and two of them helped their team to advance to State.
Junior Kenton Wilson ran 16:22.72 to place 10th at regional beating his 4th man counterpart and keeping the Rams in contention for the championship. This Saturday, Wilson repeated as the 4th Ram scorer at sectional. He ran 16:30 and placed 35th.
Freshman Tyler Pasley ran 16:44.56 at regional and placed 16th to secure the win for Shelbyville. At sectional on Saturday, Pasley (16:43) finished just 48 seconds behind the 1st Ram scorer in 44th place and secured the team’s 3rd place finish.
Wilson and Pasley were part of the team’s course record time. Shelby ran 1:21.12 to beat the 2011 team’s time by 1.25 seconds.
Freshman Maggy Yockey earned a trip to sectional by placing 17th at regional (20:29.36), cutting almost 30 seconds off her time. Yockey advanced to sectional as the 3rd fastest individual not on a advancing team. This Saturday, Yockey competed at sectional and placed 54th, running her best true 3-mile distance (20:30).
