The Daily Union Athletes of Week are made a difference on the big stages.
Drennian Martin, Shelbyville cross country senior leader, made a difference at the IHSA Class A State Meet on Saturday. Kendall Knop, Stew-Stras, volleyball junior hitter, and senior hitter Brittani Tabbert made a difference at the Arcola 1A Sectional and the Nokomis 1A Super-Sectional championships, advancing the Comets to State.
At the state meet on Saturday, Martin showed his leadership by running #1 and finishing his prep career with an all-state, 15th place (team 6th) performance. His performance pushed Shelby to 4th place at State, ahead of rival Tolono. Martin beat all the #1s from the three teams that beat Shelbyville at State. Martin ran the 4th best time ever of a Shelbyville runner at State.
Knop led Stew-Stras in the Sectional Championship with a double-double (10 kills, 12 digs). She led the Comets in the Super-Sectional Championship with a season-high 18 kills.
Brittani Tabbert had 10 net points (9 kills, 1 block) in the Sectional Championship and a double-double at the Super-Sectional Championship (11 kills, 15 digs).
