Moulton Boys Split With Pana

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Moulton 7th and 8th boys teams split at home against Pana on Monday. Ram 7th won, 25-17, but the Rams 8th lost, 38-27.

Ram 7th started the season losing two games, but then went on a winning  streak of seven in a row. They lost a couple, and have started another winning streak. After beating Pana, they are 9-4.

Payton Howell led the Rams against Pana with a game-high 13 points, followed by Turner Pullen with six points. Clark led Pana with 10 points.

The game was  close early. Tylr Gottfriedt and Howell had a score, each, and Pullen made two foul shots. Clark made all five of Pana’s points with a bucket then a 3-point play. Shelby led, 6-5.  

In the 2nd, Braden Young had the only Ram bucket, and Clark the only Pana bucket. He also had 1-of-2 at the line and tied the score at the break, 8-8.

The Rams sparked a 13-4 run in the 3rd period, as Howell made a 3-point play and scored two more times. Pullen scored twice and Cade Watson scored once. Marston and Duduit had the only Pana buckets.

To start the 4th, Shelby led by nine, 21-12. Howell scored all four Ram points down the stretch on two buckets. Clark scored once for Pana, Marston scored and Voudrie made 1-of-2 foul shots, only trimming the lead by a point before the buzzer.

Monday

Ram stats: Howell 13 (6 FGs, 1/1 FTs), Pullen 6 (2 FGs, 2/3 FTs), Watson 2 (FG), Gottfriedt 2 (FG), Young 2 (FG). Team FGs 11. Team FTs 3-of-4.

Pana stats: Clark 10 (4 FGs, 2/3 FTs), Marston 4 (2 FGs, 0/2 FTs), Duduit 2 (FG), Voudrie 1 (1/2 FTs). Team FGs 7. Team FTs 3-of-7.

The prime-time game went to Pana on the strength of a 20-7, 2nd period run, 38-27.

The game was tied at the end of one, 7-7. Grant Sims had pair of free throws and a pair of buckets and Keaton Plummer 1-of-2 free throws. Galvin scored twice for Pana and made 1-of-3 foul shots. Miller got started slow with two free throws.

In the 2nd, Miller scored 10 of his team-high 15 points, on three buckets and 4-of--5 free throws.

Hrabak scored three times and Simac had a bucket and two free throws in the 20-7 run.

Shelby got two more scores from Sims and 1-of-3 from the line. Hunter Plummer had a two, but Shelby was down 13 at the break, 27-14.

The Rams played Pana even in the 2nd half, but they couldn’t make up much of the deficit. Keaton Plummer scored twice in the 3rd and Sims once with 1-of-3 free throws for seven points. Pana got three solo buckets, to still lead by 12 heading into the 4th, 33-21.

In the 4th, Shelby got solo buckets from Sims, Justin Hopper and Dalton Owens for six points and Pana had just five points on two solo buckets and a free throw. Pana still won by 11.

Grant Sims had a game-high 16 points for the Rams, while Miller led Pana with 15.
