Moulton Sweeps C-H

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Cowden-Herrick 8th grade upset the Moulton Rams 8th in the Nokomis tourney to begin the season, but the Rams and their 7th grade teammates got even with a sweep on Thursday. The Ram 8th won by 20 points, 46-26, and the Ram 7th won, 43-16.

Moulton 7th (10-4) won their third game in a row. They were led by Payton Howell and Tylr Gottfriedt with 10 points each. Gottfriedt scored 6 of his 10 points in the 1st and Howell made 1 of his 2 treys. Turner Pullen added two free throws for an 11-8 lead. Coltin Rauch scored twice for C-H, Hunter Watson split a pair at the line and Brody Phillips made 1 of his 2 triples.

Shelby 7th broke open the game in the 2nd with a 17-2 run.

Gottfriedt scored two more times, Howell had a deuce and a trey, Mason Cameron scored, Pullen scored twice and Peyton Koonce had a bucket. C-H only got one bucket from Rauch, falling behind by 18 points at the break, 28-10.

Shelby dialed it back in the 3rd, but a 9-2 run gave them a 25-point lead heading into the 4th, 37-12. The 4th was reserve time, except for a final Howell score, and Shelby ended up winning by 27.

The Ram 8th grade was a close game throughout the 1st half. Shelby led 12-11 after the 1st and just 24-20 at the break. Shelby then broke out in the 3rd with a 9-3 run. The Rams finished the game with a 13-3 run for the 20-point win.

Keaton Plummer and Grant Sims led the Rams with 12 and 11 points, respectively. They scored twice, each in the 1st. Dillon Birch and Hunter Plummer added solo scores. Aaron Nohren led C-H with 12 points and scored 7 of his 12 points in the 1st. Konner Blackerby and Matt Smith added solo deuces.

The Rams got three field goals from Grant Sims (6 of his 11) in the 2nd, a bucket from Trevor Hendryx, and a free throw from Jordan Sieger. C-H got two more scores from Nohren one from Rauch, two free throws from Sandiford and one throw from Barfield. Shelby extended their lead by a 3-pointer from Hunter Plummer in the 2nd.

C-H was shut down in the 2nd half. Sandiford had the only basket in the 3rd, along with a free throw from Barfield. Blackerby had the only basket in the C-H 4th, a trey.

Shelby got two more scored from Keaton Plummer in the 3rd, one from Hunter Plummer and one from Dalton Owens, plus a Hendryx free throw.

In the 4th, Justin Hopper scored twice, as did Keaton Plummer. Hunter Plummer scored again and Birch made two free throws. Sims made one.
